Prints

The genesis of many of my prints comes from multiple sources: images I've recorded or sketches I've made in my travels, images from printed matter such as post cards or photos, and a general intuition of how an abstract context can be the armature for the larger composition. I have used as few as one copper plate and as many as eight in forming these pieces shown at the left.

For the most part I employ various aquatints (soap ground, resin, spit bite) and resists such as hard and soft ground. In many cases I use photo etching which is the process of placing a digital image on a film, transferring infra red light through the film's emulsion for transfer to the copper plate, developing in a solution, and, once visible on the plate, etching in an acid bath.
